POS Terms Explained in Cambodia: A Plain-Language Guide

Talk to a POS provider and you’ll hear words that sound more complicated than they are: SKU, variants, stocktake, reorder point, KHQR. None of them are difficult. They are just names for things shop owners already do, like counting stock or taking a QR payment.

This guide gives you POS terms explained in Cambodia in plain language, grouped by topic, so you can read a feature list or talk to a provider with confidence.

Products and Stock

Product catalogue The full list of what you sell, with names, prices, and categories. It’s the foundation of a POS, since every sale draws from it.

Category A group of similar products, such as drinks, snacks, or shampoo. Categories make products easier to find and let you see which groups earn the most.

SKU Short for “stock keeping unit.” It’s a code you give each product so you can tell it apart from every other product, such as a different size of the same item. If you have ever labeled a shelf with a short code, you have used a SKU.

Barcode The black-and-white lines on a package that a scanner or phone camera can read. Scanning a barcode brings up the right product and price instantly.

Variant A version of the same product, such as a small, medium, or large, or a blue or black. Each variant can be priced and counted on its own.

Modifier An option added to an order at the time of sale, such as “no ice,” “extra cheese,” or “less sugar.” Variants change the product itself. Modifiers customize one order.

Bundle (or combo) Several products sold together as one item at a set price, like a coffee and a pastry.

Stock level How many units of a product you currently have.

Reorder point The stock level at which you want a warning to order more. Set it high enough that you have time to restock before the shelf empties.

Stocktake (or inventory count) Physically counting what’s on your shelves and comparing it to what your records say should be there.

Stock adjustment A change to your stock count that isn’t a sale, such as removing damaged or expired items so your records match reality.

Shrinkage Stock that disappears without a sale, from spoilage, damage, miscounting, or theft.

IMEI A unique number given to every mobile phone. Phone shops use it to tell identical models apart and to record exactly which handset was sold.

Payments

KHQR Cambodia’s national QR payment standard. One QR code can be scanned by apps from different banks and e-wallets.

ABA PayWay A widely used payment gateway in Cambodia that processes digital payments in the background. For more detail, read our guide to KHQR and ABA PayWay at checkout.

Split payment Paying one bill with more than one method, such as part cash and part KHQR, or one bill shared between two people. See split payments.

Refund Returning money to a customer for a product or service. Good records link each refund to the original sale.

Exchange Swapping a returned item for another one, usually with stock updated for both. See returns and exchanges.

Service charge and tip A service charge is added to a bill and belongs to the business. A tip is given to staff. Tracking them separately keeps both clear.

Sales and Reports

Transaction One completed sale from start to finish.

Receipt The record given to the customer after a sale, either printed or digital.

Revenue (or sales) The total money earned from selling, before costs are taken out.

Expense Money your business spends, such as rent, utilities, wages, and supplier costs.

Profit margin The share of your revenue that remains as profit after costs. A higher margin means you keep more of each dollar sold.

Dashboard A single screen that shows your sales and key numbers at a glance. MyLekha’s Dashboard works on iOS, Android, and the web.

Best sellers and slow movers The products that sell most and least over a period. See how to read them in best selling products.

Systems and Setup

Cloud POS POS software that stores your data online instead of only on one device. If a device breaks, your records are still safe.

Offline mode The ability to keep taking sales when the internet drops. Sales sync automatically once the connection returns.

Mobile POS A POS you use on a phone or tablet, so you can take orders and payments anywhere in the shop, not just at a counter.

Multi-store Managing more than one shop or branch from the same account. Read more in multi-store POS.

Permissions Settings that decide what each staff member can do, such as who can give discounts, process refunds, or see reports.

Kitchen display system (KDS) A screen in the kitchen that shows orders as they come in, instead of paper tickets. See kitchen display.

Customer-facing display A second screen that shows the customer their order and total at checkout.
