Daily Closing Checklist POS: Open and Close Your Shop Right

Daily Closing Checklist POS: Open and Close Your Shop the Right Way

Most shop problems don’t happen at 2 p.m. on a busy Saturday. They begin quietly, at opening time when a printer has no paper, or at closing time when the cash is counted in a hurry and nobody writes down why it’s off. A short routine at both ends of the day prevents most of them.

Here is a simple daily closing checklist POS teams in Cambodia can follow, with its matching opening routine. It should take about ten minutes each.

Opening checklist (10 minutes)

1. Check your devices

Make sure the tablet, phone or computer is charged and logged in. If you use a second screen or kitchen display, check those too.

2. Test the internet

MyLekha is a cloud POS, so a working connection matters. Open the POS and confirm it loads.

3. Check the hardware

Look at the receipt printer paper, the barcode scanner and the cash drawer. A dead printer at 9 a.m. is easier to fix than at 12 p.m. See POS Backup Plan.

4. Look at stock alerts

Check which items are running low and decide what needs attention today. See Inventory Management on a POS.

5. Confirm today’s promotions

Make sure any discounts or bundles for today are ready, and that the team knows them.

6. Start each cashier’s shift

Each person logs in with their own account, so every sale and drawer has an owner. See Shift and Cash Management.

Closing checklist (10 minutes)

1. Finish open orders

Close or cancel any unfinished tickets, so nothing is left hanging overnight.

2. Close each shift

Each cashier ends their own shift before leaving, so a shortage can be traced to a person and a period.

3. Count the cash

Count the drawer in both USD and riel, and compare it with what the system expects. Write down any difference and its likely reason.

4. Check digital payments

Look at the day’s KHQR and ABA PAY payments and make sure they match your bank or app records.

5. Review refunds and discounts

Scan them quickly. Anything unusual should be asked about today, while everyone remembers. See Loss Prevention POS Cambodia.

6. Record expenses

Enter any cash taken out for suppliers or supplies, so tomorrow’s numbers start clean. See POS Expense Tracking.

7. Look at the day’s results

Open your reports or the MyLekha Dashboard, and note your total sales and best-sellers. See The 2-Minute Dashboard Check.

8. Make a note for tomorrow

Write down one thing to fix and one thing to restock. Keep it short.

Why a routine works

  • Problems are caught the same day, while they are easy to explain
  • Everyone knows their part, so nothing depends on one person’s memory
  • New staff learn faster, because the routine is written down. See New Cashier Training POS.
  • Month-end gets easier, because small gaps never pile up. See Month-End POS Checklist.

Conclusion

A tidy day starts with a quick check and ends with a quick count. Pin this list up near your counter, assign each step to someone, and your shop will run more smoothly with very little extra effort.
